Risc reading roof garden. Risc has a permaculture roof garden of medicinal plants fruiting trees and shrubs which promotes sustainability. Not only there is a garden on the roof as well there is a fair trade shop and a restaurant downstairs. The global cafe bar uses organic fair trade and local produce and is the only place in reading for ethopian food. We hold monthly volunteer group inductions we provide low cost meeting space for groups.

The sector39 permaculture design partnership grew out of work with risc in reading developing the roof top forest garden and related education work. In 2002 gardeners took this idea further by creating an edible forest on the flat roof above the centre s conference hall. The risc roof garden has become a fantastic tool to encourage schools to make full use of their outdoor classroom in every area of the curriculum a mini eden project on their own doorstep.
